About
Terry Singh is a New York–based fashion designer whose work explores identity, craftsmanship, and the evolution of modern menswear.
Born in Guyana and raised in Hell’s Kitchen after relocating to New York at the age of eleven, Singh’s perspective is shaped by movement between cultures, environments, and ways of living, as well as by the grit and resilience of his surroundings. These early experiences continue to inform his work.
Singh did not begin his career in fashion. His path to design emerged later, shaped by a pivotal six-month journey through India that transformed his relationship to clothing. During this time, he began wearing wraps as a daily practice, experiencing and understanding their drape, proportion, and feel—leading him to innovate the form and question why as men are we denied this level of freedom in what we wear. Drawing from the traditional lungi and dhoti, he deconstructed the garment and reimagined it for his own life in New York City, laying the foundation of his practice over twelve years ago.
Singh’s first runway presentation combined personal garments produced in New York City with luxury suiting crafted in Italy—a balance that continues to define the studio today. High-quality fabrics are sourced from Italy, supported by a standard of tailoring the brand has become known for.
While wrap garments are deeply rooted in global tradition and often viewed through a Western lens as ritualistic or feminine, Singh recontextualizes them within a distinctly masculine framework, expanding the language of contemporary menswear.
Singh’s work has been presented at New York Men’s Day, featured on magazine covers, and worn for red carpets and significant life moments, including weddings. He is a two-time nominee for the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award and was presented with the President’s Award in 2024.
